Although filling or crown materials cannot be whited past their original shade, any surface staining that has accumulated since they were done can be lightened! In some cases, I see clients that have noticed staining on their natural teeth while the filling/crown has remained lighter, or generalized surface staining since the restorative work was done can be improved. If you are looking to have the filling or crown replaced, it's best to whiten your teeth at least two weeks prior to allow your shade to settle for the shade match!
